Glasskeld (/glasskeld/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Shiríhùwmàf County, Loqulate Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Glasskeld is derived from the Sylvin language, as Glasskeld was founded by Mistryl Belchier, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Glasskeld has a yearly average temperature of 17°C (62°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a pleasant 25°C (77°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 9°C (48°F). Glasskeld receives an average of 187 cm/y (73 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the fall. Glasskeld covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 6456 m (21181 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Glasskeld was founded durring the late 10th century, by Mistryl Belchier. The establishment of Glasskeld suffered from many setbacks, delays, and obsticles, most notably a group of Glasskeld which required millitary assistance exterminate before the community could finish being built.

Glasskeld was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 10th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Glasskeld is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Glasskeld is buildings are arranged arround a network of narrow split-log ties streets which form a diagonal shaped grid, where each square verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller square has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town is the proud owner of a properly designed set of renforced walls made from mighty querried stone blocks. Their construction and material choices would make a dwarf weap with joy, for each and every part of the elaborate fortifications are purly functional and robust well byond reason. Even nonexperts can tell the walls are an excelent defencive structure. Glasskeld's exceptionaly well made fortifications are suffering from significent damage, so much so that examples can be pointed to no matter which section one might have within their line of site, and most of which render sections inoperable at present.

Glasskeld is not quite well. Something happened here, perhapse recently, perhapse long ago. Whatever it was, it settled into the very soul of the town like a festering wound. The people go about their day well enough, but there’s a tention in the air you can cut with a knife. There’s a patern to the panic. It’s not easy to see, and no one quite agrees on what it is, but the locals know and operate under this pattern. It shapes everything they do, and you feel as if you’ve almost worked it out only for some small detail to devastate your theory every time you try and comprehend it.

Civic Infrastructure

Glasskeld has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Glasskeld. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Glasskeld's parks.

Glasskeld has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Glasskeld.

Glasskeld has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Glasskeld has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Glasskeld has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Glasskeld's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Glasskeld possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Glasskeld's grid is powered by a boiler and turbine based power plant.

Glasskeld has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Glasskeld's natural decorations nor waterways.

Glasskeld has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Glasskeld has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

While Glasskeld might ostensibly be ruled by some other power, real control lies with the senior members of the local craft and labor guilds. Their decisions have the practical weight of law, and much of their time and effort is spent squeezing out competitors and parceling out economic opportunities in the community. Some guilds might have little or nothing to do with their original trade, and now exist purely as shells for political influence.

Glasskeld's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by grandeur of scale, simplicity of geometric forms, dramatic use of columns, and a preference for blank walls. This design ethos extended to re-imagining earlier styles of structure to create them anew, with a similar overall look and feel to one another..

In Glasskeld sometimes, near one of the seasonal solstices, the sun appears to split into three and it rains from a clear sky for several hours.

The Fox, Fading near Glasskeld are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Glasskeld's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves gestures to channel Conjuration energies of tier 3 via singing.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century Glasskeld experienced an impossibly long, cold, and stormy winter unlike anything seen before. The worst of the disaster struck The storm coated everything in a thick layer of ice and freezing countless animals, plants, and people to death. Glasskeld lost 165 people, and 132 livestock in the disaster.. The disaster is remembered as the Grieving Screams, after the sounds of the winds.
